Today we were introduced to the brief and the topic of Ihi wihi. The definition on the stream page is
"Ihi and wehi are complementary terms associated with emotional and psychological behaviour. Ihi can be described as an individual’s essential force, charisma, power or charm – which emanates throughout the creative process. Wehi, on the other hand, highlights the internalised feelings that occur in response to ihi. Sometimes the terms dread or awe are commonly used to describe wehi. In this context, wehi is taken to mean the emotional response on the part of the viewer." I feel like using these terms as a base for our work is going to be very interesting and has quite a bit of potential.
We also learnt about visual rhetoric and how it is used in design, rhetoric is kind of like a metaphor or metaphor is a type of visual rhetoric not too sure. We discussed the different types of rhetoric like subversion, parody and satire. I kind of knew what each term meant by themselves already but seeing them used in association with design was a pretty new concept. We then got into groups of 4-5 to discuss how a group of images used rhetoric to strengthen their message or impact. It was actually very interesting how much rhetoric is used in a sometimes simple design and I look forward to using it myself.
my homework is to research about the flag change and then debate tomorrow about why my group thinks it should be changed. I have been nominated as one of the speakers which is going to be interesting.
