Week 6 hand in

Handed in this morning after a quick presentation of everyone's work, super relieved just need to email the blog and I'll be done.

All in all I'm pretty happy with how things have turned out and I enjoyed this class quite a bit.

week 6 class 1

got feed back from Jaquie and Phoebe about the improvements I had made to the posters. There was still some stuff to be done to one of the posters but the other didn't have to be changed at all which was great. I was also told my type has come along way from week 5 which was reassuring.

Got my posters printed and mounted, the print quality was quite a lot worse because I went to a different print shop and their printers were a worse I guess. So that's kind of lame but It's not too bad, the hardest part was mounting the posters on card and mine turned out very wrinkled and creased.

All in all I'm just happy I'll be ready for hand in tomorrow :)

week 5 class 2

Wasn't able to make it too class but I did work on the type in my posters. I also changed the composition of one of them to make it a bit interesting.

week 5 class 1

Got to see my posters printed to the A2 scale which was nice. the print quality was also amazing It looked just like the colours on screen which is the first time that has every happened to me. The feed back I got was also really good, My biggest weakness is the type so I need to work to fix that before hand in.

Homework is fix up the posters and make them more clear or more engaging.

Week 4 class 2

Felt good enough to go to class lucky because I made a lot of progress today. We had pair feed back with other students and I got a lot of useful feed back on my two designs. I also made another page of thumb nails just on one of my posters to see how I could improve it.

We also learnt a bit about typography today which is good because my type is kind of awful and needs most of the work in my posters.

for home work we need to have our 2 final posters printed at A3 which will be nice to see those finally printed to scale.

Week 4 class 1

I was sick and missed this class but I did improve one of my posters quite a bit while the other is lagging behind a bit. I want to get this one right then move onto the next, not sure if this is a good way to do things but It's how I feel like doing it. So I guess I'll have to see what happens and hope it works out.

week 3 class 2

Continued exploring different ways of showing my ideas. also scrapped one of the two concepts I had and have started moving forward with some thing else. Did quite a few more thumb nails because I'm still not 100% on my idea or how I'm going to show it.

Homework is just continue to develop the posters. crop and resize them see if it makes them look better or more compelling.

week 3 class 1

Presented our 4 A3 posters to a small group. I only had 3 finished but it was still good to get feed back on the ones I finished. The group liked two of my posters and felt the third needed quite a bit of work which I agreed with. The two best from each person were then placed on the walls for class feed back. one of my designs was singled out for having an interesting idea which was nice.

I have the two posters I'm going to move forward with and should have them by tomorrows class hopefully. I feel like there is a lot of potential in one of them and the other needs a bit more work

week 2 class 2

Just continued with the thumbs nails and expanding our ideas, did some activities around word association was also quite fun and did help quite a bit.

We need to have 4 A3 for next class, I feel pretty confident that I have enough thumb nails to create something interesting by then.

week 2 class 1

Today we started by putting up our A3 print outs of the examples of posters related to our topic, I found it quite useful to unpack the design and really enjoys these class wide discussions.

For the rest of the class we did random input task to help generate some key ideas around our topic. some of these thumb nails were really weird but also hilarious. This had been the best activity so far and I had way too much fun with it. I also may move forward with some of the ideas but im not to sure yet.

Week 1 class 2

We had the debates today, my team lost but we did manage to change the minds of 5 people so I think that is some kind of victory in itself.

We spent most of today's class just creating word lists for the two topics. We had two separate lists the tangible and intangible at first. I think this is a really good way to brain storm I could come up with so many idea just while writing the lists. then once we had those lists down we had to list metaphors related to our topic which was very difficult. I could only manage a few and they were pretty week, so going to have to expand on them later.

Our homework is to continue to research our topics and try and have one chosen by next weeks class. We also need to find examples of other designs that could relate to our topic to see how others have tryed to convey their message using rhetoric.

Week 1 first class

Today we were introduced to the brief and the topic of Ihi wihi. The definition on the stream page is
"Ihi and wehi are complementary terms associated with emotional and psychological behaviour. Ihi can be described as an individual’s essential force, charisma, power or charm – which emanates throughout the creative process. Wehi, on the other hand, highlights the internalised feelings that occur in response to ihi.  Sometimes the terms dread or awe are commonly used to describe wehi. In this context, wehi is taken to mean the emotional response on the part of the viewer." I feel like using these terms as a base for our work is going to be very interesting and has quite a bit of potential.

We also learnt about visual rhetoric and how it is used in design, rhetoric is kind of like a metaphor or metaphor is a type of visual rhetoric not too sure. We discussed the different types of rhetoric like subversion, parody and satire. I kind of knew what each term meant by themselves already but seeing them used in association with design was a pretty new concept. We then got into groups of 4-5 to discuss how a group of images used rhetoric to strengthen their message or impact. It was actually very interesting how much rhetoric is used in a sometimes simple design and I look forward to using it myself.

my homework is to research about the flag change and then debate tomorrow about why my group thinks it should be changed. I have been nominated as one of the speakers which is going to be interesting.
